About Victoria Falls: Victoria Falls is located on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, with 75% of the falls visible from Zimbabwe and the rest from Zambia.

It is the largest waterfall in the world by the sheer volume of water that flows over it 2. The falls are approximately 1708 meters wide and vary in height from 80 meters to 108 meters, cascading over a basalt plateau into the Zambezi River.

The local name for Victoria Falls is “Mosi-oa-Tunya,” which means “the smoke that thunders.” This name refers to the spray and the sound of the falls, which can be seen and heard from as far as 40 kilometers away.

The first European to discover the falls was David Livingstone, the Scottish missionary, and explorer, who named the falls after Queen Victoria.
